Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

This policy sets out the principles that govern everything Consumer Insights Journal publishes. It exists to protect the one thing that makes our work valuable: the trust of our readers. We hold ourselves to these standards on every article, in every category.

Last updated: June 2026.

Our mission

We help people make confident, well-informed purchasing decisions based on evidence rather than marketing. Our loyalty is to the reader. When the interests of a reader and the interests of a brand conflict, we serve the reader — every time.

Editorial independence

Our editorial team has complete and final control over what we cover and what we conclude. No advertiser, affiliate partner or commercial relationship can influence a rating, a ranking or a recommendation. We do not accept payment in exchange for coverage, for a higher score, or for a place in any “best of” list. If we ever publish sponsored or paid content, it will be clearly and unmistakably labelled as such and kept separate from our editorial reviews.

How we make recommendations

Every recommendation is grounded in one or more of the following: hands-on testing, published research, qualified expert input, and verifiable product data. We explain our reasoning so readers can judge our conclusions for themselves. Our full methodology is described on our How We Test page.

We are willing to reach negative conclusions. If a product is overpriced, underperforms or is simply unnecessary, we say so plainly. A recommendation only means something because we are prepared to withhold it.

Affiliate relationships and funding

Consumer Insights Journal is funded in part through affiliate links. When you click certain links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This revenue supports the research and testing behind our work.

We want to be completely clear about how this works: affiliate relationships never determine our verdicts. We recommend products because our evaluation supports it — not because of any commission. We frequently recommend products that earn us nothing, and we decline to recommend products that would. Where affiliate links appear, we disclose the relationship in line with applicable advertising rules.

Accuracy and corrections

We work hard to be accurate, but no publication is infallible. When we discover an error — or a reader brings one to our attention — we correct it promptly. Significant corrections are noted transparently with the date of the change. If you believe we have published something inaccurate, please tell us through our Contact page; we review every report.

Sources and expertise

We prioritise primary sources: peer-reviewed research, official regulatory guidance, manufacturer specifications and our own testing. Articles touching on health, safety or technical performance are reviewed by qualified contributors before publication. We do not present opinion as established fact, and we distinguish clearly between what is proven, what is likely, and what is uncertain.

Keeping content current

Products change, get reformulated and are replaced. We revisit and update our guides and reviews so they remain accurate and useful over time. Updated articles carry a revised date.

Health and safety content

Where we cover health-related products such as supplements, our content is for general information only and is not medical advice. We encourage readers to consult a qualified healthcare professional before making decisions about their health. We do not make claims that a product can diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
